Requesting an Account on Tejas District Website

All website information (calendar, news articles, and unit information) is viewable without an account. An account is only necessary if you are going to post information to the website (and special permissions are still required) or if you want to be included on one of the district's e-mail distribution lists. While anyone is welcome to view the information, there is no need for Scouters outside the Tejas District to have an account.

Cub Scout Day Camp - Staff preparation & Texas Youth Protection Training

Day Camp staff training/orientation will be held at 9:00am May 19th, May 26th, June 2nd, and June 3rd at Kennedale's Sonora Park.

Texas (in-person) YPT will be held the same dates at the Troop 35 Scout Hut in Kennedale beginning at 11:00am. All Scouters are welcome at this training; not just day camp staffers.

Anyone attending Day Camp as a volunteer that has not already completed their Day Camp Orientation and Texas YPT MUST attend one of these dates.

Day Camp setup will also begin at 9:00am June 3rd at Sonora Park. All available help is requested and appreciated.

Tejas District has a new district chairman as of the recent awards dinner and annual business meeting. We are proud to announce that a Scouter, Jack Dalrymple has accepted this important position. Jack will be one of the District Key 3, working with our 'long-time' district executive, Justin Wilburn and new district commissioner, Randy Smith.

SPECIAL BADGE FOR SCOUTS WHO EARN THE EAGLE RANK IN 2012

To celebrate the centennial of Scouting’s top honor, all recipients of the Eagle Rank in the year 2012 will be eligible to wear a special version of the red, white, and blue badge.

This year marks 100 years since Arthur Rose Eldred became the BSA’s first Eagle Scout. Since that date — Aug. 21, 1912 — more than 2 million outstanding young men have earned the award.

Wilderness First Aid Training Classes Announced for April and May 2012

Wilderness First Aid training is required for all high adventure outings so here is an opportunity for you and your units leaders to get this valuable training.

Wilderness First Aid is a two-day, 16 hour class designed for trip leaders, camp counselors, and outdoor enthusiasts. A current CPR certification is a pre-requisite, however, no other previous experience is required. This emergency response training includes patient assessment, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, splinting, and a variety of other topics.

UPDATE TO COACH FORM.

There are a couple of key issues to be aware of.

I need a form for each Troops Project coach. The Project coach registration form is attached below.

If a scout gets the Home Depot cards, the fundraising section must be filled out. They are approved by sending to the Council Finance Department, Michael Wright. His email is miwright [at] bsamail [dot] org.

Tour Permits are needed if participants are not getting to Project via parent.

Eagle Project Workbook

The new Eagle Scout Project Workbook has been introduced. The new workbook is included in the link below. Either one can be used at this time. The new workbook will be required beginning January 1, 2012. There will be more details on the particular changes over the coming weeks. Guide to Advancement

The new Guide to Advancement has offically released. It has been sent to the printer and should show up in the scout shops in the very near future. The Link to the guide is listed below. There are several sections that the Council Advancement Committee is still discussing on how to implement in the Longhorn Council. As those decisions are made, the information will be passed along to the Districts in Longhorn Council.

There is a National push to have all units using Internet Advancement. This is part of the Journey to Excelence program as well. At some point in the near future, uploads from all Third-Party software will not be allowed to upload anymore.
