Nationally the retention rate of Webelos through the first year of Boy Scouts is only about 30%. This roundtable focused on discussions of why this is, and how to enhance recruitment and retention of Webelos.

The Adult Leader's training is undergoing dramatic changes. Woodbadge has been revised, and new training materials have been issued from National for all levels of Adult leaders. Randy and Jack provided an overview of these changes.

Jamboree on the Air is a great opportunity for Scouts to
establish friends in other parts of the world. Dave has been the district promoter of this event, and
continues to provide a great service to the district by allowing and avenue for our Scouts (Cubs and Boy Scouts) to participate in a World Scouting event.

Valerie Houston - River Legacy Living
Science Center
The 12,000-square-foot Living Science Center was developed with the specific objective of minimizing the impact on the environment by adopting the concept of sustainable design. This message - that humans must commit to preserving and protecting the earth's resources, is right in line with the principles of "Let No Trace", and provides the troop with many conservation ideas.

Randy Smith - Eagle Scout Program
Randy reviewed procedures for getting the Eagle Scout Project planned, approved, executed and reported. He also provided detailed hints on how to endure that he Eagle BOR was well organized and proceeded with a minimum of disruption.

Don Strickland - ORIENTEERING; Council Orienteering Committee, NTOA Meet in March (SR2) and Orienteering Opportunities
Don reviewed various orienteering opportunities to include in the Troop's program. The North Texas Orienteering Association (NTOA) is a great provider with meets every month that include courses at most skill levels, with topographical maps provided. Longhorn Council's Orienteering programs were also discussed.
