What is Merit Badge College?
Merit Badge College is organized for all Boy Scouts 11 to 18 years of age. The purpose of Merit Badge College is to help Boy Scouts who may have difficulty in locating Merit Badge Councilors and also to provide a greater opportunity for Scouts to earn required or popular Merit Badges. Instruction is available to the Scout in Three Merit Badges of his choice. Participants will work on each badge for 80 minutes on each of 2 Saturdays.
Please Note:
Scouts must bring their own Blue Cards. The card must be filled out, signed by their Scoutmaster and returned to be signed by their instructor at the final class of Merit Badge College. If the requirements are not completed at the end of the second weekend, the cards will not be signed by the Counselor.
All cards will be collected at the end of each weekend and returned to the Troops at the January Round Table.
Student Information
Most classes are full at 25 Students, although some classes are smaller at the teachers discretion. Scouts are responsible to write down and complete all homework assignments for every class!
*Only Scouts who complete all Merit Badge requirements individually and completely with the degree of proficiency required by the instructor will have their Merit Badge card signed upon completion!
Partial completion slips will only be awarded at each instructor’s discretion!
Scout Preparation:
Most merit badges require pre-requisite work- for information on pre-requisites for each merit badge go to www.meritbadge.org. If this work is completed and presented to the counselor in class, the Scout should be able to complete the merit badge. Unfinished merit badges must be completed at home by contacting an approved District Merit Badge counselor. All merit badge record sheets (Blue Cards) must be left with the counselor the day of the event. Leaders should make sure each Scout has completed the pre-work and has it with them the day of the class. Mark all materials with the Scout’s name, troop number, and phone number.
