Tejas North Star Adult Leader Training complete for class 208

North Star Training

On Sunday 2/24/08, we graduated 11 boy scout and cub scout leaders in the most recent Northstar Course. An action packed full weekend with the best comments being the Astronomy class taught by Randy Smith. Participants experienced camping by patrol, patrol spirit, cooking, wood tools, map and compass, first aid, ceremonies, campfire program, and knots and lashings.

The Outdoor Leader Training was held locally at Camp Shuman on Lake Worth. The Council has retained the rights to the property, which has sat vacant since last winter. The Camp needs some TLC, but is a great location for training and Pack camping.

The next course will be in September and is required training as a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and should be for Webeloes Leaders. Troop Committee, Cubmasters, or any new parent or future parent to boy scouting should also consider this course. Northstar Training exposes the adults to what it is like to be a boy in a Boy Scout Patrol.

This course consists of three different trainings. New Leader Essentials (NLE), Scoutmaster and ASM Specific Training (SM Specifics) and Outdoor Leader Training (OLT), which is more in depth than Outdoor Webeloes Leader Training (OWL).

Next course will be held in September and exact dates will be announced soon.
