Youth Protection Training

Trained Patch

The Boy Scouts of American and your Tejas District have improved the guidelines and have increased the training sessions this past year.

The new guidelines include the well known ?Two Deep Leadership? with two training instructors at every session, more training sessions within the year, advance announcements of all sessions, and better registration of trained adults.

We encourage that all adults who work with children be trained in the knowledge provided in these training sessions. Everyone is welcomed to attend and learn.

Every registered scout leader should renew their registration every three years. This new three year policy is a change from the past five-year period. The new three-year period is effective June 1, 2000. Therefore, if any scout adult has a card whose date is prior to June 1, 1998, then you need to update this year.

Always remember to check with any scout camp outside of the Longhorn Council regarding that camp?s YPT requirement. Some camps are still five years while the nationally sponsored trips like Philmont will require the YPT card dated the same year as the activity. If you are in doubt, call that camp?s council and ask.

New in 2001 is Venture Youth Protection. The Cub Scout and Boy Scout training programs are the same with each lasting about an hour and half. The Venture Youth Protection now addresses the issues of co-ed scouting. This additional training is about an extra half-hour.

Upcoming classes will be offered at Roundtable. Plan now to attend and update your training.

Try to attend one of the sessions. Good Scouting.
