Troop Introduction
The Kiwanis Club of Arlington chartered Troop 5 in March 1997 as a new unit in the Tejas District of the Longhorn Council. The Troop currently has 25 active members in three patrols and looks forward to new scouts joining at any time. The Troop meets Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm, at The Montessori Academy -3428 Arkansas Lane. Our meetings include Scout skills instruction, games, and planning for upcoming events.
Youth Leadership
Troop 5’s program is planned and directed by the youth membership through the Patrol Leaders' Council. The Senior Patrol Leader and other youth leadership are elected to 6-month terms of office. Youth leadership is under adult guidance.
Outdoor Activities
Troop 5 believes that there's nothing left after you delete the "out" from "Scout". Troop 5 camps out the second full weekend of the month. The Troop's outdoor program is designed to provide the Scouts with fun, new skills, and advancement.
Summer Camp
Troop 5 goes to a weeklong stay at Boy Scout Summer Camp every year. In 2005 attended Camp Wehinahpay in New Mexico. In June of 2006 we plan to go summer Worth Ranch in the Longhorn Council.
High Adventure
Troop 5 does a high adventure Trek yearly. In 2005 the Troop sent an expedition to the Boy Scout High Adventure Sea Base in Florida. In 2006 the Troop is sending a crew to summit Mount Phillips in New Mexico. Extra commitment for boys participating in the High Adventure Program is expected for preparation for these types of camping experiences.
