Boy Scout Troop 591 was chartered by Saint Andrews United Methodist Church on July 1, 1992. The original Troop was 8 Scouts and 12 adults. On July 11, 1992, the Scouts of Troop 591 adopted the following mission statement:
To offer a fun and exciting program with positive values that promote development of character, leadership, and self-reliance in its members by providing learning opportunities, outdoor experiences, positive role models, new experiences, active patrols and an advancement program consistent with the philosophies of the Boy Scouts of America and St. Andrews United Methodist Church.
Today, we have over 60 boys and 40 adults. This is the Church's largest youth group.
Meetings are 7 - 8:30pm, Monday evenings *
Committee meetings and Board of Reviews are the first Monday, monthly
This is a boy-run troop - adults provide guiding leadership
Terms of troop officers run from March to September
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader elected to serve as SPL six months later
Junior Leader Training is conducted semi-annually
Patrol Leader Council meets monthly to plan the Troop programs
Eleven Scouts have earned the Eagle Rank since 1993
Eleven Eagle projects have been completed on Church property
Three Philmont treks have been taken
One canoe trek to the Northern Tier in Minnesota/Canada
A Troop contingency attended the 1997 National Jamboree
Troop elects which summer camp to attend including out-of-council camps
Troop T-shirts are awarded when the Tenderfoot rank is earned
The Troop owns over $8,000 in equipment and camping gear
The Troop has earned the Quality Unit Award every year
1997 Tejas District Camporee Winners -1998 Tejas Camporee Hosts
BSA Lifeguards are trained for Troop aquatic activities
$5.00 monthly dues are payable semi-annually
